Your European plans, considered in full.

A move, an investment or a change of ownership rarely affects one country alone. The decisions you make in Europe need to work with the rest of your affairs.

We bring the international tax position and the practicalities in Malta into the same conversation, with senior advisers involved from the outset.

  • International tax advice

Your position across the countries where you live, invest and do business.

  • Expertise in Malta

Local legal, corporate and fiduciary experience to put the advice into practice.

  • Continuing oversight

Advice that develops as your family, business and obligations change.

Rob’s professional background

For the decisions that cross borders.

From a technology business to an investment fund or a family foundation, the structure needs to work across the countries involved. We consider how it earns income, holds assets and returns value to its owners and investors.

Technology, AI & digital assets

Tax advice for fintech, AI and other businesses built on intellectual property, alongside crypto and digital assets. We consider where technology is developed and owned, how it is licensed or commercialised, and how cross-border income, asset transfers and transactions between group companies are taxed.

Funds & collective investment

Tax advice from the choice of fund structure through to acquiring, holding and selling portfolio investments. We consider how income and gains move through investment funds and collective investment arrangements, and how profits are distributed or capital returned to investors, including the tax consequences in their home jurisdictions.

Private wealth, trusts & foundations

Structuring the ownership and succession of family wealth through companies, trusts and foundations. We consider the tax consequences of contributing assets, holding investments and making distributions, alongside the position of founders, settlors and beneficiaries in each relevant country.

Business owners & investors

Planning an investment, reorganising a group or preparing for a sale. We assess the tax consequences across the countries involved and coordinate the corporate work needed in Malta.

International residence

Understanding the consequences of a move before it happens. We consider the country you leave, your intended residence and the location of your income, assets and business interests together.

Established expertise in Malta.

Malta gives this work an established local base within the European Union, connecting international advice with local knowledge and practical support.

Its relevance depends on your circumstances. We assess where Malta fits within your plans and how any arrangement will be treated in the other countries involved.

Advice that stays with the structure.

Tax advice stays connected to how a business, fund or family structure is managed, from its establishment to distributions, changes of ownership and eventual exit.

  1. Plan with the whole position in view.

Understand the objectives, the countries involved and the consequences of each option before committing to a structure.

  2. Put the advice into practice.

PBF leads the international tax work. Rob and the Malta team coordinate the relevant local legal, corporate and fiduciary services.

  3. Keep the position under review.

Revisit the arrangements when ownership, residence, legislation or family circumstances change, working alongside your existing advisers.

A few practical points.

Is this only for people moving to Malta?

No. A European investment, business interest or ownership structure can require advice even when you live elsewhere. We consider residence separately from the location of the company or assets.

Does the advice extend beyond Europe?

Yes. PBF’s role is to consider the international tax position, including the other countries connected to you, your family or your business. The European work forms part of that wider assessment.

Can my existing advisers stay involved?

Yes. We work alongside your lawyers, accountants and other advisers, with responsibilities agreed at the outset.
